Lina is a swedish filmmaker with the drive to make character based stories that doesn’t necessarily fit the dramatical curves. With bold, and a bit provocative films she wants to get the audience to wake up and engage in topics about the cynical world we live in.

Who are you?

When I know the answer to that I will stop searching, until then I will continue to try and make movies and keep on finding myself.

How did the project begin?

This project actually started when I was applying to get money for another script called “4510”. They needed to see something more from me to prove myself qualified to even apply. So I wrote Henningsson very quickly and it turned out to be more than expected.

What is Henningsson about?

We live in a very confused world right now. We seem to have lost control over what is right and what is wrong, good, bad etc. Social media’s impact on us, especially our younger members, is horrifying and I wanted to process my mixed feelings around it.

Henningsson is a very analogue symbol of social media. A story about someone who didn’t even have a home before, gets addicted and leaves his destiny in other people’s hands.

I’m trying to approach the problem that we voluntarily give away so much information about ourselves, and we let people judge us and that is accepted. Also, on the other side there is the audience, that seems to own the power to say and express anything about people they have never met.

An anecdote about your filming?

When I wrote the script I was inspired by my friend Linus Henningsson, who later also became the actor even though he never acted before. And we didn’t rehearse once! And I stole his real last name for the movie that was called “Like” from the beginning.

It was a World Premiere for Henningsson, what does it represent?

To be honest, it represents a great deal. I have struggled a long time in Sweden, but haven’t found one company or film institute that think I have good ideas. To have the world premiere outside of Sweden was amazing for me as a filmmaker, and I have a lot of love for Paris so that was just double of luck!

What represent Excuse My French “Best Screenplay” for you?

It means that finally I know that what I do is appreciated somewhere. And that’s what keeps me going.

What is next for Lina Engborg? 

I’m working on another movie about homeless in LA, the situation there is so bizarre and I find it both fascinating and very sad.

Hakan Sağıroğlu, Film Director of Eric

Hakan Sagiroglu was born on January 03, 1991 in Istanbul. During his high school years, he realized his increasing passion about cinema. He worked as freelance documentary photographer while he was studying at Istanbul University. After he realized that what he is studying is not what he wants from life, he left his study uncomplete and moved to Budapest for studying film-making.

Fábio Barros, Film Director of Escape

Who are you?

Hi! I’m Fábio Barros, a 27 years old Portuguese filmmaker and co-founder of Armazém Criativo, a creative multimedia agency. My venture in filmmaking is fairly new, I focused in motion graphics most of my career. I also like to do photography, and music.. and 3D… To be honest I can’t focus on the same thing for long, after a while I get bored and have to try something new and challenging, not sure if this is a good thing.. But filmmaking is working for now.

What is Escape about?

Escape is about the custom motorcycle scene in Portugal and the reason why people choose to go through all the trouble of customising a bike instead of just get a new one of the shelf. I explore the emotional process that goes into the making of your own unique bike, a choice that seems illogical but at the same time the right one. I found that very intriguing when the custom Café Racer style resurfaced, I realised people build a relationship with their bike, it’s not just a commodity.

An anecdote about your filming?

After I got a support from Mondim de Bastos’s county, I was able to shoot the inicial sequence of the film there and with a full team of sound engineers, drone crew and production assistants. Two days before the shoot, the driver we found to be the subject of this shoot said he had misunderstood the date and that he couldn’t make it, I had everything set up and no actor, so I made the best use of social media and frantically posted messages in motorcycle facebook groups asking for help. The night before shooting day, I received a call from Ulaak José, a lawyer, offering his time (and bike) to spend the night at a local hostel and shoot at sunrise in the middle of a juridical process. I couldn’t believe my luck, this really shows the mentality of the motorcycle community. I am a motorcycle rider, that’s what made me start this project in the first place, this was just one of the many friend I made during the process of making this documentary.

It was a premiere for Escape in France, what does it represent for you?

Well I was actually born in France, Blois to be exact. So it was pretty special, I couldn’t think of a better place to premiere my film internationally!

What is next for Fábio Barros?

I will just continue to grow doing what makes me happy. I would really like to make travel related films, as well as fictional. Let’s see what the future brings!
