Directors Biography

Hannah Kugel

Hannah Kugel is a French feminist director. She graduated from the Media Institute in Paris with a BA in Journalism and Documentary Filmmaking. Later, she earned an MA in Contemporary History and Politics from Birkbeck College in London. In 2022, she earned an MA in Creative Film Production from Catalyst in Berlin. Hannah is passionate about challenging patriarchal mindsets and portrays gender fluidity in her feature documentary “Birth of a Cabaret” released in 2016. In 2021, she addressed the issue of women’s safety in two experimental short documentaries, “Violence Against Women” and “On The Use of Self-Defense”, which have been screened at festivals in Europe and Canada. Hannah also directs dance and music videos that showcase the talent and physicality of performers through the lens of a female gaze. “Hot Soup” is her first work of fiction.
