Synopsis

Franca is a country woman, hardened by years of solitude and by working the land. One day she receives an unexpected phone call from her daughter, who lives in a northern city severely affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. Unable to cope on her own with little Agnese, Franca’s granddaughter—whom the woman barely knows—the daughter asks for help. The grandmother is thus forced to take the child in.

Directors Biography

Giulia Di Battista

Giulia Di Battista was born in San Benedetto del Tronto. From an early age, she was exposed to worlds that deeply shaped her sensibility, such as rural life and folk traditions. She was awarded a scholarship to attend NABA in Milan, where she graduated in Media Design with top marks. She later directed her first short film, Rèsce La Lune, a documentary about the last retara in her hometown. The film won several awards, including Best Short Film at the ICFF, and led to her admission to the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, where she graduated in Directing. Two short films made during her three-year program, Cento Metri Quadri and Domani all’Alba, were selected for numerous national and international festivals such as Energa CamerImage and Visioni Italiane, winning multiple awards. Since 2020, alongside her work as a director, she has been working as an assistant director on the sets of filmmakers such as Stefano Mordini, Ferzan Özpetek, Roland Emmerich, among many others. She has recently completed principal photography on her latest short film, Quando vorrai, produced by YUK! Film Srl.
